Set menu: £25.50 for three courses. Wine: £12.50 per bottle (22 bottles between 24 drinkers!). Mineral Water: £25. Coffee: £31. Service Charge: £121

Soup: good, Partridge Rillette: filling, Herring: miniscule, Welsh Rarebit: strangely brown

Bean Stew: slightly undercooked, Haddock: small portions, Mallard: good portion, slightly underdone, Ox Cheek, Trotter, and Mushroom Pie: very good

Rhubarb Crumble: sweet, Coffee Parfait: very sweet

Just a bit of feedback on Franklins: they seem to have a problem cooking things thoroughly enough – my beans were really too chewy and could have done with another ten minutes in the pressure cooker and the guy next to me had to leave half his fish because it was so underdone – still completely translucent.

Although this restaurant is near to me and wasn’t terrible, I wouldn’t hurry back.
